Machete-Wielding Masked Man Pointed Gun At NJ Driver, Cops Say

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A masked man armed with a machete and pistol was arrested in Passaic County this week, according to police.

On Thursday, just before 3 a.m., police were called to Knapp Avenue and Schoonmaker Place in Clifton on reports of an armed man wearing a black ski mask.

The 911 caller said a masked man, armed with a machete, tapped on the caller's front seat car window and pointed a handgun, according to officials.

Less than a block from where the incident took place, police found Eddy Calixto, 47, of Clifton, wearing a black ski mask while holding a machete and gun, police said.

Calixto cooperated with police, dropped the weapons, and was placed under arrest, officials said.

In addition to the machete, mask, and a .22-caliber Makarov handgun, police found a small amount of cocaine with Calixto, authorities said.

Calixto was charged with the following:

• Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose
• Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
• Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose
• Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
• Possession of Cocaine
• Aggravated Assault

Calixto is being held in the Passaic County Sheriff's Office Corrections Hub to await court proceedings.
