PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — The attempted robbery of a Passaic County car dealership ended with one man in handcuffs and another on the run, police said.
On Thursday, around 4:15 a.m, police were called to Fette Auto dealership on Route 46 in Clifton on reports of suspicious men in the area.
When police arrived, one man drove off in a dark colored car, and a second man ran away on foot, police said.
Officers chased the man who ran away through the dealership's parking lot, over a large fence to a neighboring property, and into the intersection of Donnalin Place and Scott Terrace, according to officials.
Eventually, officers tackled the man and cuffed him.
Police identified the man as Elian Regalado-Vega, 20, from the Bronx, NY. He was in possession of burglary tools, including a window-punch glass-breaking tool, a vehicle master key, and a screwdriver, police said.
Regalado-Vega is charged with burglary, possession of burglar's tools, possession of a vehicle master key, and resisting arrest by flight.
He was taken to the Passaic County Sheriff's Office corrections hub to await court proceedings.
Police are still investigating the incident, and anyone with information on the man who escaped is asked to call Clifton detectives at 973-470-5908.
