WAYNE, NJ — A local pastor is in the running to be the USA's 2026 "Super Dad," which will benefit the Children's Miracle Network.
Michael "Myk" Alba, a Wayne father, is one of five across the country competing to be America's next Super Dad, a competition that inspires fathers "to advocate for themselves and those in need."
The competition is sponsored by Ace Hardware and benefits Children's Miracle Network, a nonprofit that raises hundreds of millions of dollars for local children's hospitals across the United States and Canada.
Alba, lead pastor at Oasis of Grace Church, is celebrating a milestone birthday this month and is using the Super Dad campaign as a way to encourage the Wayne community to celebrate with me by giving back, he told Patch.
Alba says the most rewarding part of fatherhood is "watching my daughters become strong, compassionate women with faith, courage, and purpose."
"I love seeing their personalities, gifts, and dreams become reality and knowing I've had the privilege of guiding, encouraging, protecting, and cheering them on along the way," he said. "My greatest joy is seeing them grow into who God created them to be and knowing that, no matter how old they get, I'll always be Dad and they'll always be my princesses."
Alba is currently in third place, as of Friday afternoon. If he wins first place, he'll win $25,000 and get to be featured on a nationally televised Ace Hardware commercial. He says if he wins the money, he'll set aside 10 percent for his church, with the rest going toward investing in his daughters' future, providing greater financial stability for his family, and growing his family's own nonprofit, The Rafaella Foundation.
"My daughters are watching not just what I say, but how I live. I want them to know what love, faith, integrity, resilience, and service look like in action," Alba said. "I know I won't always get everything right, but I can always show up, listen, encourage, protect, and keep growing. My hope is that the way I father them gives them the confidence to know their worth, pursue their purpose, and love others well. By showing them what a man should be, it raises the bar for what they should expect from others."
While the first vote is free, every additional vote towards Alba will send a donation to the Children's Miracle Network, with each one costing $1.
Voting can be done online here and is open until Thursday.
