PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A man was found dead in a Passaic County park's lake this week, according to officials.
Passaic City Mayor Hector Lora announced on Tuesday evening that a man had been found dead in Hughes Lake at Third Ward Park earlier that day.
According to Lora, a backpack was discovered floating in the lake around 11 a.m. The discovery prompted a police response, and officials later found the body of a local man appearing to be more than 50 years old.
"It is an unfortunate loss in regard to the individual," Lora said. "Information was shared with the family."
Authorities have not released the identity of the man, as the next of kin was only recently notified. Lora did say that the man had recently moved to Passaic.
While the incident remains under investigation, Lora says that investigators do not suspect foul play at this time.
Lora added that officials will share any updates with regard to the investigation as they become available.
