Athletic Field Project On Alps Road Slowly Coming Together
Planning for the project first began in 2013. Fields will replace the ones in Sheffield Park, which was closed due to flooding.

WAYNE, NJ - The state’s Green Acres program has allocated $825,000 to the township to fund the installation of several athletic fields on a 12-acre tract of land on Alps Road near DePaul Catholic High School.
The fields will be used by lacrosse, soccer, and softball teams and there will be room for 200 vehicles to park near the fields. The township purchased the land for $4.5 million in 2006 with grants from the state’s Green Acres program and the county.
The project is expected to cost about $2.7 million. The town received nearly $450,000 from the Passaic County Open Space Committee to fund the project.

The entrance to the fields will be located directly off of the jug handle behind Walgreen’s on Hamburg Turnpike. Some residents who live near the property expressed concern that the project would increase area traffic and that lights on the fields would disrupt their quality of life.
