Average Homeowner Will Pay $180 More In School Taxes
Board of Education approves 2015-16 school budget.

The average Wayne homeowner will pay approximately $180 more in school taxes this year.
The Wayne Board of Education passed the district’s $148.3 million general fund Thursday. That includes a $141.5 million tax levy.
The average home is assessed at $228,200.

The annual school tax increase for homeowners with homes assessed at various amounts are:
- $300,000: $237
- $400,000: $316
- $500,000: $395
The district is using nearly $2.2 million in banking cap revenues to pay for various upgrades and improvements at various schools:

- New intercom system at Schuyler-Colfax Middle School: $220,500
- New intercom system at Lafayette Elementary School: $121,800
- New roof at Wayne Hills High School: $684,000
- New roof at Wayne Valley High School: $182,000
- New roof at Ryerson Elementary School: $695,000
Board members Christian Smith and First Vice President Michael Bubba Jr. voted against the budget.
State aid remained flat year over year at nearly $4 million.
