Baby Locked In Safe During A Game Of Hide-And-Seek, Police Say

New Jersey family contacted police after learning they were the subject of a cross-border search.

A bizarre incident in which a baby was found locked in hotel room safe was really an accident during a game of hide-and-seek, police said Thursday.

The couple was vacationing in Niagara Falls and the baby was accidentally locked inside the safe during a game of hide-and-seek between siblings, NBC News reported.

Canadian police launched an investigation after the New Jersey parents asked the staff for help because their baby was locked in hotel room’s safe, NBC News reported.

A maintenance worker freed the baby after 20 minutes but the distraught parents checked out of the hotel with the child before the police were called, The Toronto Star reported.

Canadian and United States authorities flagged the parent’s vehicle and began hunting for them after they left the hotel; they wanted to make sure the baby was okay.
