Baby Stops Breathing at Wayne Daycare, Dies at Hospital
Police provided CPR and Automated External Defibrillator and medical care continued as the child was transported to Chilton Hospital.

A 19-month old child died last week after he stopped breathing at a Wayne daycare.
Wayne Police received a 911 call just before 3 p.m. on Dec. 4 reporting that “a child under 2-years-old ... was not breathing at the Learning Experience at 1784 Hamburg Turnpike,” Detective Captain Mark McGrath said.
The 911 operator provided pre-arrival CPR instructions over the phone as Wayne Police, Wayne First Aid Squad and St. Joe’s Hospital Paramedics were dispatched.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the child, a 19-month-old male, was unresponsive and was not breathing.
“The officers provided CPR and applied an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and were soon joined by the Wayne First Aid Squad Ambulance and the Paramedics from St. Joe’s Hospital,” Captain McGrath said. CPR and medical care continued as the child was transported to Chilton Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by the Wayne Police Department Detective Bureau and the Passaic County Prosecutors Office. There are no signs of foul play.
