Body Pulled From Passaic River In Wayne: Police

Someone discovered the deceased in the stretch of river near the Willowbrook Mall.

WAYNE, NJ — Officials continue to investigate after recovering a body Friday evening from the Passaic River.

Wayne police received a call just before 7 p.m. about the deceased. The caller reported that someone was drowning, or had drowned, in the river behind a home on Riverlawn Drive — a residential area near the Willowbrook Mall.

Township police, fire and EMS personnel attempted rescue operations at the scene, according to Police Chief Jack McNiff. Authorities pulled the dead individual from the river and commenced a police investigation.

Wayne police had no further information on the victim's identity or the investigation, including the cause of death. McNiff directed further questions to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office. Patch reached out to the agency and will update with any response.

Passaic County Sheriff’s Office CSI unit was also on-scene Friday.
