A N.J. mother and her 1-year-old child died of carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday as they were sitting in a car; 4-year-old is critical.

A N.J. mother and her 1-year-old child died of carbon monoxide poisoning Saturday as they were sitting in a car during the blizzard, police said.

The tailpipe of the car was apparently covered in snow, according to a report in the Record, while he mother’s 4-year-old child is in very critical condition at a local hospital.

The death could be considered the first storm-related fatality in N.J. as a blizzard dumped more than 2 feet of snow on the state.

Authorities responded to a car parked outside 47 Sherman St., finding three people unresponsive inside around 8:15 p.m., Detective Andy White told the publication.

They were transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital, and the mother and 1-year-old were subsequently pronounced dead, according to nj.com.
