Cats Possibly Thrown From Vehicle On Rt. 23 In Wayne

The cats were found on Route 23 Saturday afternoon dead, police said. They appeared to have been run over several times.

WAYNE, NJ — Authorities are investigating the death of two cats that may have been thrown from a vehicle Friday on Route 23.

Police responded to Route 23 South near the Wayne Motor Inn and Izumi Steakhouse at about 12:30 p.m. on a report that two cats were thrown from a vehicle, said Lt. Christian Wittig said. Officers found two dead cats that may have been thrown from a vehicle.

The cats appeared to have been run over by vehicles several times, Wittig said.

The Investigative Unit of the Passaic County chapter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is handling the investigation.

"The case is open and active for us," said Sgt. Frank Rizzo of the Passaic County ASPCA.
