A developer has applied to build a Chipotle and a car wash to replace two vacant properties in Wayne, planning documents show.

WAYNE, NJ — A developer is proposing to bring a new Chipotle, and expand a growing car wash chain, at two vacant sites along Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne.
The Chipotle location proposed for 1195 Hamburg Turnpike (C.R. 504) would have a drive-through window for customers to pick up orders that they made on the mobile app or the website, according to planning documents. The proposed Chipotle would replace the former Valley National Bank site there, documents show.
In addition to the drive-through window, the Chipotle would have 44 seats inside and measure a total of 2,325 square feet, planning documents show.

The board held its first hearing on the Chipotle proposal on July 10, with the next hearing scheduled for Aug. 28. In a traffic review for the Chipotle, township officials asked the applicant for how it will manage "extreme peak conditions to avoid traffic impacts along Hamburg Turnpike."
Township planners had concerns about how traffic could be backed up, if large crowds from nearby sports fields and DePaul Catholic High School come to the restaurant.
