County Superintendent To Appoint Trustee If Board Of Ed. Seat Is Vacant Feb. 5

James Petrecca was elected to the Wayne Board of Education in November but said he would decline taking the position.

WAYNE, NJ - If James Petrecca is not sworn into a three-year term on the Board of Education next month, the Passaic County superintendent will appoint someone to the position.

Petrecca was elected to the board in November but said he would not take the seat.

“For right now, I just have a lot going on,” Petrecca said in November. “I do not want to take on the position if I can’t give it my all because then I feel like I’m doing a disservice to the position and the residents.”

Interim Executive County Superintendent of Schools Robert H. Davis said Petrecca has until Feb. 4, the third board meeting of the year, to be sworn in; if he is not, Davis will appoint someone to replace Petrecca.

There have been three other times in Passaic County during Davis’ tenure where a board vacancy occurred during an election. In those cases, Davis has carried out “the will of the people” and appointed the next highest vote-getter.
