Driver Was Drunk In Passaic Co. Crash That Injured 3: Police

Police charged a woman with assault by auto and driving while intoxicated for a serious crash in West Milford on June 10.

WEST MILFORD, NJ — A woman faces drunk driving and assault by auto charges after a crash in West Milford last month that sent her and another driver to the hospital, said officials.

The two-car crash happened Saturday, June 10 around 4:20 p.m. near 190 Lakeside Road, said West Milford Police. The driver of a 2006 Toyota sedan had crossed the center line and collided with a 2015 BMW, police reported in their initial investigation.

The Toyota driver was seriously injured, and first responders transported her to St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson via helicopter according to police.

The driver of the BMW, a 71-year-old Sparta man, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital by ambulance for internal injuries. A passenger in the BMW "suffered minor injuries but refused further medical attention on scene."

Police said the sedan driver, 38-year-old Jessica Lima of West Milford, "was determined to be driving while intoxicated" based on what the West Milford Crash Investigation Unit found.

Police charged Lima by summons with third-degree and fourth-degree assault by auto, as well as driving while intoxicated, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and other traffic charges.
