Early Dismissal Again Thursday For Wayne Schools Amid Excessive Heat
It was a short first week back to school to begin with, and students will be let out early two days in a row due to high temperatures.
WAYNE, NJ — Wayne Township Public Schools said they will dismiss students early again on Thursday, as heat index values could be as high as 99 degrees in the region.
Wednesday was the first day of school for the more than 7,600 students in the township district, and students also dismissed early as temperatures were predicted to reach 94 degrees.
Temperatures in Wayne could get up to 94 degrees again Thursday, before a chance of showers and thunderstorms comes in to relieve residents of the post-Labor Day heat wave.

The National Weather Service extended a heat advisory in eastern Passaic County, and other parts of northeastern New Jersey, until Thursday at 8 p.m.
For the minimal schedule, Wayne's two high schools will dismiss at 12:03 p.m. Middle school students will be dismissed at 12:40 p.m., and grades K-5 will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.

At the Preakness Early Childhood Center, full day preschool will run from 8:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Morning preschool is from 8:20 a.m. to 9:55 a.m., and afternoon preschool is from 10:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Aftercare will be open, and athletics will operate on their own schedule, the district added.
