End-Of-Life Care Focus Of New Initiative By Hospice, Hospital

State Senator Paul Sarlo, former Senator Kevin O'Toole and Holy Name officials will discuss new end-of-life care model.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Medical and government officials Thursday will announce a new end-of-life care model they've developed that could be implemented statewide.

State Senator Paul Sarlo (District 36), Michael Marion, president and CEO of Holy Name Medical Center, former state Senator Kevin O'Toole and Dr. Charles Vialotti, medical director of Villa Marie Claire, will announce the new model at a press conference Thursday.

According to Holy Name and the Dartmouth Atlas of Health Care, New Jersey ranks last in terms of end-of-life care and Medicare expenditures at the end of life in New Jersey are among the highest in the country.

A state budget appropriation has been made in support of the new model. Officials will discuss the new model. Actor Ian Kahn will be there to discuss the value of end of life care planning and resources.
