Classic Kelzmer Recordings

Klezmer dance and instrumental recordings will be played at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey on Sunday afternoon, April 22, in a free public program beginning 2:00 o’clock.  A Jewish musical genre with roots in Eastern Europe, Klezmer migrated with its immigrant adherents to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  The musical form melded with jazz in its American adaptation.

A recorded narration of Klezmer history by WFDU radio personality Norm Laster will lead the program, followed by musical recordings made from 1916 to the 1940s by noted artists Dave Tarras, Naftule Brandwein, Kandel’s Orchestra, Lt. Frankel’s Orchestra, Belf Romanian Orchestra, Miski Ziganoff, and Hymie Jacobson’s Orchestra.  Light refreshments will be served.
