MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR SHOMREI TORAH’S WELCOME BACK WEEKEND THAT STARTS THE CELEBRATION OF “THE YEAR OF THE TORAH”

Celebrate, Rejoice and Reconnect at Shomrei
Torah’s “Welcome Back Weekend” from Friday, September 7th through Sunday, September 9th at 30 Hinchman Avenue, Wayne, NJ.

Start with “Friday Nite Live” featuring the Shomrei Torah Musician as they present a spirited and joyous musical Kabbalat Shabbat Service at 6:15 pm.  The musical Shabbat will be made even more special with a celebration of the synagogue’s newest acquisition.  The Dumoff family will be bringing their family Torah from Connecticut to Shomrei Torah and it will be welcomed with open arms, song and dance.

A Shabbat dinner follows services.  The cost for dinner is $20 per adult, $10 per child with a $50 family maximum.

You’ll leave uplifted, exhilarated, humming all the way home…and full!!

Saturday morning, September 8 at 9:30 am, the Torah celebration continues when the new Torah is actually put into use.  A special Kiddush luncheon takes places after services.  There is no charge for the luncheon.  As we said, you’ll leave reinvigorated and …full.

Saturday night brings the first of Shomrei Torah’s High Holiday events with a Selichot.  At 9:00 pm see a new film by Mark and Johanna Hershenson entitled “A Torah Tale” that documents the extraordinary journey of a Czech Torah scroll through the blazing fires of the
Holocaust into the cold, damp cellars of the Communist state, and finally to its current home in a synagogue in Wellington, New Zealand.  The film will be followed by a
discussion,   dessert reception, and then the traditional Selichot service that begins at 11:00 pm.  “Selichot” are special prayers for forgiveness that begin before and continue during the Jewish High Holidays.  As is customary, the first Selichot prayers are said late at night, before going home to sleep.  There is no charge for the movie or the rest of this evening.

The Welcome Back Weekend and food continue on Sunday morning at 9:30 am with Shomrei Torah’s Java Nagila – a fun, relaxing get together for a Sunday brunch that’s
free to the community.   Shomrei Torah’s new year of Religious School also begins at this time so it is a perfect
opportunity for parents to drop off their children and then socialize.  Morning services are also available beginning
at 9:00 am.

Summer is over.  It’s time to re-connect,
re-commit, and re-invigorate…oh, yes, and fress
(eat heartily!).
