Ex-Pines Lake Teacher Loses Appeal Of License Suspension

Yvette Nicholas mocked a student's name on Facebook, received a one-year suspension.

A former Pine Lakes teacher has lost her appeal of a state decision to suspend her teaching license for a year.

The state Board of Examiners ordered in October that Yvette Nichols’ teaching license be suspended after she admitted that she made fun of a student’s name on Facebook, NorthJersey.com, but denied she bullied, harassed, or intimidated the student, despite the school district ruling that she did.

Nichols argued that her actions did not make her unfit to teach and appealed the decision.

Nichols posted comments ridiculing the student’s name on her Facebook page, reportedly saying that a syllable sounded like an expletive, the website reported.

She resigned from her position in September 2013.
