Fire Will Keep Wayne Community Center Closed, Mayor Says: See Timeline
Wayne's Community Center will remain closed for over a month, the mayor said Friday. Summer camp will be moved.
WAYNE, NJ — Wayne's Community Center will remain closed for over a month due to an electrical fire that damaged it on Wednesday, the mayor announced.
"The Wayne Township Community Center will remain temporarily closed through Sept. 1," said Mayor Christopher Vergano in a statement Friday. "Further updates will be shared through the Township's official communication channels as they become available."
The town will pause all Community Center memberships so that residents aren't impacted financially, the mayor said in a statement.

Parks and Recreation Summer Camp will be held at Toms Lake for the rest of summer, the mayor said.
In a video, he thanked first responders and workers who have been dealing with the fire and cleanup.
