First 'Wellness Weekend' At Wayne Schools Is After Thanksgiving

The district is continuing its focus on student and staff wellness, school officials said.

WAYNE, NJ — Wayne Schools students won't have to worry about homework, tests, quizzes, or other assignments after they finish Thanksgiving dinner. The district scheduled three "Wellness Weekends" again this year, continuing a tradition started in 2018 to give students (and staff) more time to relax with their families over holiday breaks.

The Wellness Weekends for the 2023/24 school year are:

  • November 22-26
  • February 16-19
  • May 24-27

These weekends "represent a break away from school responsibilities," said Superintendent Dr. Mark Toback in a letter to parents.

"We hope this will lead to healthier students, employees, and families," he said.

Toback also noted the district's homework policy, which says: “Assessments may not be given and homework or long-term projects may not be due within three days following a spring or winter recess period.”
