Fundraiser Started For Family Of Cop From Wayne Killed In Crash

Sgt. Peer Kamper Jr., 40, died Wednesday when the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was driving hit a deer.

WAYNE, NJ — An online fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a Pompton Lakes Police officer and Wayne resident who died when the motorcycle he was driving hit a deer.

More than $2,700 was donated to the Sgt. Peter Kamper Jr. Memorial Fund as of Thursday afternoon. Patrolman Jimmy Riepe, a co-worker of Kamper's, started the fundraiser. Funds will be given to Kamper's family.

Kamper is survived by his wife, Christine, parents Wendy and Peter and brother Mike.

Kamper was heading home from doing a fill-in shift with the Pompton Lakes Police Department. He was a 13-year veteran assigned to the patrol division.

Kamper was well respected and liked by his fellow officers and people he came into contact with while on the beat.

"He will be remembered by all of us as a large but gentle man who was there for you no matter what time of the day," Riepe said on the Go Fund Me page.
