Gang Shooting Case In North Jersey Ends With 4 Men Sentenced

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — Four men have been sentenced following a gang-related shooting in Passaic County, officials said.

Throughout September, Jatrail Avent, aka “Curry," Shequan Roberts, aka“Shingy,” Jahmir Moody, aka “Jahdi," and Wiziar Johnson, aka “Wababy,” were given varying sentences in connection with a Paterson shooting from 2022.

According to officials, the four Paterson men are members and associates of the neighborhood-based street gang known as “4K,” which operates in the area of Rosa Parks Boulevard near Lyon Street, Keen Street, and Mercer Street in the city. The gang is responsible for shootings, robberies, homicides, and drug trafficking in the area, investigators added.

On Nov. 6, 2022, the four men opened fire on a rival gang known as the 230 Boys, who were in a van. Officials said the 4K men fired more than 60 rounds during the shooting. It's unclear if the gunfire hit anyone.

Following a lengthy investigation, each of the men was arrested and eventually pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and one count of brandishing a firearm.

On Sept. 2, Avent was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.

On Sept. 9, Roberts was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, and Moody was sentenced to seven years and one day’s imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release.

Most recently, on Sept. 15, Johnson was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
