Heat Advisory Issued In Wayne, With Temperatures Remaining In The 90s
Expect heat index values in the upper 90s, with a heat advisory through at least Wednesday evening in the Wayne area.
WAYNE, NJ — After a hot Labor Day, the late summer heat will continue hanging over northeastern New Jersey and other parts of the East Coast, weather forecasters said. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Wayne Township from 8 a.m. Tuesday until 8 p.m. Wednesday, with temperatures possibly equaling record highs.
Temperatures in the eastern portion of Passaic County are expected to be at least 93 degrees through midweek, with heat index values of up to 97 expected. The heat advisory may extend until Thursday, forecasters added.
This heat wave is impacting cities across New Jersey and the Northeast, with some locations possibly seeing the hottest days of the summer this week, Accuweather added.

High temperatures and humidity can cause heat illnesses, especially for people who work or do a lot of physical activity outside or somewhere that is not properly cooled. Elderly people, and those with certain physical or mental health conditions, are also at risk of getting heatsick, said weather experts.
“Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning,” the National Weather Service suggested. “Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.”

Heat-related illnesses can cause someone’s body temperature to rise to dangerous levels, and damage their organs. Anyone who becomes overwhelmed or sick from heat “should be moved to a cool and shaded location,” NWS experts added. “Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke, call 9-1-1.”
Forecasters issue a heat advisory “when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.”
Temperatures around the Mid-Atlantic will top out around 10-15 degrees above normal early this week, Accuweather forecasters said. Philadelphia, which has already reached a peak summer temperature of 95 degrees, "is forecast to surpass that value numerous times this week as the heat wave sets in across the region," said AccuWeather.
