Historic Wayne House Hosting Family-Friendly Christmas Events

Take family pictures and learn about Christmas from the days of yore will be on display at the Van Riper-Hopper House Museum.

WAYNE, N.J. — Christmas cheer will be at the Van Riper-Hopper House Museum in Wayne this year.

Residents can take pictures near a real one-horse open sleigh Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Special interactive tours will be Dec. 2, 3, and 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Pines Lake Garden Club has decorated each room using decorations and antique toys from 1786 to 1930. Children will be able to play with the toys, briefly.

The Wayne Historical Commission will offer hot cider and Dutch desserts using historical recipes. Staff will be in costumes and invite attendees to sing along with them. Admission costs $5 for adults, $1 for children, $3 for senior citizens 62 and older. Active military personnel and families of five or more people will be admitted free.

The Dutch Colonial house was built in 1786 by Uriah Van Riper for his bride, Maria Berdan. It is listed on the New Jersey and national registers of historic places.
