'Hopeful Day' For Preakness Healthcare Center

WAYNE, NJ — Five residents at Preakness Healthcare Center who had previously tested positive for the coronavirus have now recovered, according to a release from Preakness, in what is being called a "hopeful day".

As for the status of the rest of the 311 residents at Preakness, 133 residents have been tested as of Thursday, April 30, and 77 total residents have tested positive. Results are pending for 15 residents, according to the release. Three residents are currently hospitalized.

Of the 529 Preakness staffers, 115 have been tested and 44 have tested positive. Tests are still pending for 8 staffers, and 53 have received negative test results as of Thursday.

On Thursday, some residents were temporarily relocated before the facility had notified the resident's delegated representatives. In the release from Executive Director Lucinda Corrado, an apology was offered for this.

"Please accept my apologies for the temporary relocations that occurred today before the designated representatives were notified," she began. "Staff were eager to protect our residents and some residents were temporarily relocated before staff called the designated representatives."

Preakness has a total of 10 residential units, three of which are on quarantine with residents who have tested positive and three additional units are on precautionary isolation, according to the release.
