WAYNE, NJ — Wayne may receive less snow than most of New Jersey this weekend. But forecasters still anticipate some hazardous winter weather from the storm.

Parts of New Jersey — primarily the southern region — could see a foot of snow from the storm expected to run Friday night through Saturday. But the National Weather Service expects Wayne to get less than an inch of snow overnight Friday and then 2-4 inches Saturday.

Snow will primarily hit after 1 a.m. Saturday and could run into late Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The area could receive gusts as high as 22 mph Friday night and then up to 30 mph Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The north-moving storm will strengthen Friday off the Carolina coast, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The storm, which will travel up to New England, brings the greatest uncertainty for snowfall amounts from Virginia to Connecticut.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Wayne as of 4 p.m. Thursday:

  • Thursday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 22. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
  • Friday: A 20 percent chance of snow after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon.
  • Friday night: Snow likely, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 14. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. North wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
  • Saturday: Snow likely, mainly before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 22. Wind chill values between zero and 5. North wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Saturday night: A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 10. Northwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 27.
  • Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12.
