Human Remains Found In Vacant N.J. Police Station: Reports

The decomposed remains of a human body have been found inside a N.J. police station that has been boarded up since 1979, authorities said.

The decomposed remains of a human body were found this week inside a New Jersey police station that has been boarded up since 1979, authorities said.

The discovery was made Monday evening during a routine inspection conducted for the new owners of the Paterson building at 111 Washington St., according to CBS2.

Police haven't identified the body, but they believe the person may have been homeless and sneaked into the building sometime within the past 37 years. An inspector working for the building’s new owner found the remains at about 5:15 p.m., according to the report.

"Paterson Police Officers and detectives proceeded to the location where they confirmed that a decomposed body was within the structure,” Capt. Richard Reyes was quoted as saying on NorthJersey.com. “The medical examiner’s office was notified and removed the remains.”

The old police headquarters is about a block away from City Hall in Paterson’s downtown area, and it sits across the street from the former Paterson mall that used to house HARP Academy, according to the report.
