Black Ice Causes Car To Land In Passaic River, Firefighters Say
Slippery conditions caused the vehicle to cross the roadway and hit several trees before going into the river Tuesday, a report said.
TOTOWA, NJ — A car ended up in the Passaic River in Totowa on Tuesday morning, after sliding on ice and across the road, according to fire officials and a report. The two occupants inside the vehicle were not injured, first responders said.
Totowa Fire Chief Rich Schopperth said a resident and her teenage son were southbound on Riverview Drive when the vehicle hit a section of black ice. According to a NorthJersey.com report, the car (an Audi) slid across the road, hit several trees, and went down the embankment into the river.
The car landed upright in the river, Schopperth said. Firefighters were able to reach the car with a ladder, and police told NorthJersey.com that the driver and her son got out through the sunroof.
