Ida Causes 50 Evacuations In Wayne As Cleanup Ongoing: Mayor
Mayor Christopher Vergano addressed the flooding, and gave an update on recovery efforts, in a recent video address.

WAYNE, NJ — Mayor Christopher Vergano had a flashback recently, brought on by the heavy rains and severe flooding in the township.
"How ironic it is that it was just 10 years ago that I walked the streets of Fayette Ave. with then president Barack Obama," said Christopher Vergano, adding that the township has been "inundated with flooding" after Tropical Storm Ida. That flooding has left some in the township forced to leave their home, and others in Passaic County searching for loved ones. Three people remain missing, according to the latest numbers from Gov. Phil Murphy, and one county resident has died.

In Wayne, Vergano praised the emergency management workers who've been assisting residents, adding that they've overseen the relocation of 50 residents from their homes.
"I honestly couldn't be happier with the way things are going through the Office of Emergency Management," he said.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved a major disaster declaration for six New Jersey counties, including Passaic County, Gov. Phil Murphy announced.
This allows residents to register online for direct assistance for Ida-related recovery, which may include home repairs, temporary housing, low-cost loans, and other programs to help recover from the effects of the tropical storm.
