Friends of Laurelwood Arboretum is pleased to offer plein air watercolor classes set amid the natural beauty of the arboretum, 725 Pines Lake Drive West in Wayne. Classes will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on June 18, July 16, and August 13, with a rain date of August 20.

All classes will be taught by Donna Read, who brings more than 20 years of experience teaching watercolor painting. Drawn to the medium for its fluidity, she has painted portraits and landscapes for many years, with a particular passion for florals and the luminosity that watercolor uniquely achieves.

Classes will explore how painting outdoors—immersed in sunlight and nature—shapes both technique and artistic expression. “Because color and light in a landscape are constantly shifting, a fast, loose approach is required,” said Read. “We will focus on simplifying compositions, layering washes of color and using dry brush techniques to create dynamic, expressive paintings.”
