Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Ron Goldsmith, Co-General Manager, of Mike's Feed Farm.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:

We specialize in animal nutrition and offering the highest quality products for most of your furry friends. We have a wide selection of Wild Bird feeds as well as houses and feeders, for your back and front yards. We carry a variety of food options for those that enjoy feeding the deer and wildlife. If you have a chicken or an entire flock, we have all your needs in stock almost all the time. We have a variety of Purina Horse feeds for those that love the largest pets around. Plus, we carry a selection of Dog and Cat foods in kibble, canned and frozen variants, along with an incredible array of supplies and treats to smother them with love.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Ron Goldsmith: We opened our doors in 1985

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Ron Goldsmith: The business was started by my dad (Mike). He works part time, but just not as hard as he used to. I joined the company in 1989 and started at the bottom, basically sweeping and stocking shelves. Eventually worked my way up to a sales clerk and then assistant floor manager, and the rest is history as they say. In 1998 I was transferred to our other location in Totowa, NJ where I began my journey of running our distribution company and ran that until we sold in 2012. I then took a short break from working with my dad, until 2015 when he asked me to come back and help run the original store. So here we are, 11 years later and loving every minute of it.
