Longtime Passaic Co. Firefighter And Public Worker Dies

Roy Sconfienza, a 30-year veteran of the West Milford Fire Department and a Department of Public Works employee in Haledon, has died.

HALEDON, NJ — Longtime West Milford firefighter and "beloved" Haledon Borough employee Roy Sconfienza has died, according to officials.

The West Milford Fire Department and Haledon Mayor Michael Johnson announced his death on Tuesday. Sconfienza was a 30-year veteran of the fire department, holding several positions during his tenure, and was a "beloved" Department of Public Works employee in Haledon.

"Throughout the years Roy has filled positions such as Lieutenant, Trustee, and Sergeant at Arms," West Milford Fire Company #6 said in a social media post. "Roy will be sincerely missed around the station and the rest of West Milford. We ask that you keep Roy’s family and friends in your thoughts during this difficult time. Rest in peace Roy."

"(Sconfienza) had been a valued employee of the Borough of Haledon for many years," said Johnson. "Roy was a dedicated public servant who also served as a volunteer firefighter. The Borough of Haledon extends our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. May he Rest in Peace."

West Milford Police also thanked Sconfienza for his years of service.

Funeral services are pending at this time, said Johnson. Sconfienza's cause of death was not stated.
