Man Arrested, Released, Arrested Again 5 Minutes Later, Police Say

Darryl Williamson, 38, was arrested five minutes after he was released from police headquarters on the first set of charges, police said.

WAYNE, N.J. — Police arrested a man on burglary and theft charges twice Monday after he broke into two vehicles, including one right outside police headquarters five minutes after he was released on the first arrest, authorities said.

Darryl Williamson, 38, of Paterson, was charged with trespassing, burglary, and theft after he stole a woman’s handbag out of her car at the Willowbrook Mall Monday at 1:15 p.m., said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin.

Williamson is banned from mall property because of previous dealings with mall security and police, the captain said.

Williamson had two full and two empty glassine bags of heroin on him and he was taken to Wayne Police Headquarters, police said.

At 2:30 p.m., five minutes after he was released from police headquarters, police said, Williamson walked over to a blue 2004 Jeep Liberty in the Wayne Valley High School parking lot, and took three Under Armorer garments worth $112 out of the vehicle.

Three Wayne police officers saw Williamson break into the Jeep and he was arrested, Martin said.

Williamson was charged with defiant trespass, possession of heroin, burglary to a motor vehicle, theft of moveable property, and defiant trespass from the first incident, Martin said, and burglary to a motor vehicle and theft on the second incident.
