Man Burglarized Vehicles, Stole Laptop In Wayne: Police

An officer found the man trying to enter a vehicle after he stole a laptop from a different car, police said.

WAYNE, NJ — Wayne police say they nabbed a man who burglarized several vehicles and stole a laptop. An officer found Anthony Cole trying to enter a vehicle, according to authorities.

Police were dispatched at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday to Riverview Drive for a report of someone trying to enter a resident's parked vehicle. Officer Diego Ocampo found Cole, who matched the description of the suspect, at the lower end of Valley Road, police said.

Ocampo stopped the suspect to see if he was attempting burglary on a parked vehicle, and more officers arrived on the scene. Officer Donald Cook then saw a laptop in the grass, several feet away from Cole, authorities said. The laptop contained documents indicating it belonged to a nearby resident, according to police.

Cook brought the laptop to that resident and confirmed it was stolen from his vehicle, police said. After further questioning, Cook told police he stole the laptop from the vehicle for which police were originally called, authorities said.

Cole, of Rahway, was charged with burglary, theft, attempted burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia on a complaint warrant. He was placed in Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing.
