Man Dies In Wayne Cement Mixer Accident: Police

The man was wedged between a rotating cement drum and a truck cab, police said.

WAYNE, N.J. — A man died after he was crushed in between a rotating drum on the back of a cement mixer and the mixer's cab Wednesday morning, police said.

Police received a 911 call just before 10 a.m. that a worker at SBI Materials at 155 Dey Road was trapped in a cement mixer, said Detective Capt. Laurence Martin. A motorist who was flagged down by a subcontractor at the scene called authorities, Martin said.

Police responded and found the man trapped in between the mixer and the truck's cab. First responders from St. Joseph's Hospital and the Wayne First Aid Squad responded to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man was an employee of a company subtracted to work at the site.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and the Occupational Health and Safety Agency were notified and responded to the scene, Martin said. Wayne firefighters responded and helped remove the man's body from the truck at about 1:30 p.m.

The man is of Hispanic descent, approximately 34 years old but the state medical examiner took custody of the remains to confirm the man's identity, Martin said.
