Middle School Student Wins State Award for Artwork

Sophia Jeon from Schuyler-Colfax Middle School had to show the positive effect her parents have had on her life.

A Wayne middle school student received an award for demonstrating the positive effect her parents had on her life as part of the state Division of Family Development’s annual Teen Media Contest.

Sophia Jeon, a student at Schuyler-Colfax Middle School, took third place in the middle school category of the contest.

Entrants had to illustrate the ways in which their parents have instilled the importance of community service and being a well-rounded student.

"With this year's theme, we gave young people the opportunity to think about where community service fits into family life and how parents' values are reflected in the activities they choose to involve their families in."

“Each winner received a U.S. Savings Bond, a plaque of achievement, and a pair of day passes to Six Flags Great Adventure.

All winning entries will be displayed in the Statehouse Annex tunnel through May 24.
