NJ Apartment Blaze Leaves 24 Homeless, Firefighter Hospitalized

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — An apartment fire this week in Passaic County has left more than 20 people homeless and put one firefighter in the hospital.

On Sunday, around 11:30 p.m., firefighters were called to 303 Getty Avenue in Paterson on a report that the three-story building had caught fire.

Officials said the fire originated on the second floor before “rapidly” spreading through the wood-frame apartment building and becoming a three-alarm fire.

The fire was eventually extinguished, but not before decimating the entire building. Officials called the apartment complex “a total loss.”

One firefighter was injured when he was hit with fallen debris while battling the flames. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released.

Twenty people from the main complex, and four people from the neighboring building, were left homeless as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
