NJ Cop Killed In Car Crash With Parked Vehicle In Paterson

A police officer was killed in a car crash on Sunday, police said. He collided with a parked vehicle.

A beloved police officer was killed in a car crash on Sunday, according to authorities. He collided with a parked vehicle.

The accident happened at approximately 10:50 a.m., when police responded to the area of 150 Getty Ave. in Paterson in response to a motor vehicle collision, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Upon arrival, police discovered that an on-duty unidentified Paterson police officer operating a marked patrol unit was involved in a collision with a parked vehicle, according to the PCPO. Police Officer Tamby Yagan, 41, was identified as the crash victim.

The officer was the only person involved in the crash and was transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to the PCPO. No other parties were injured as a result of this crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. More information will be released once it becomes available.

The death , meanwhile, drew tributes from law enforcement and officials who praised the beloved cop for his bravery and generosity.

Jerry Speziale, director of the Paterson Police Department, said Yagan's death "is an enormous loss for the family and the Paterson Police."

Yagan, he said, was respected and loved by his fellow officers and "we miss him already. We are supporting the family during this difficult time and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they deal with this."

"Yagan was the father of a young son and a member of the Paterson PD since 2005," the Port Authority PBA said in a Twitter post. "Lord, keep Tamby in your eternal embrace."
