November COVID Cases Nearly Double Over Prior Month In Wayne

Coronavirus cases have trended upwards in New Jersey, and Wayne wasn't immune.

WAYNE, NJ — Coronavirus cases have trended upwards in New Jersey, and Wayne wasn't immune. The township had 248 new cases in November, an increase over October's total of 143.

"Our numbers have almost doubled this month," said Mayor Christopher P. Vergano.

Wayne made progress in October, with the township reporting its lowest total of COVID cases since July, when officials tallied 138 new cases.

Cases have risen throughout the Garden State, averaging 2,142.4 infections per day over the past week, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. New Jersey averaged 1,052.2 new daily cases this week a month prior.

Vergano asked the public to continue following basic health advice.

"I ask you to take the typical precautions from when we started this a long time ago," he said. "That includes washing your hands. If you’re indoors, be careful. Please stay away from each other. Anyone who still wants to get the COVID shot — either the first, second or third — please give us a call here at Town Hall, 973-694-1800."

Sixty-seven percent of Wayne residents, including 75 percent of people 12 and older, completed their first course of COVID vaccinations, according to the state health department. New Jersey officials haven't released municipal data on booster shots as of Thursday morning.
