PARCC Breakdown: How Did Wayne Students Score On Standardized Test?
Majority of Wayne students in grades three through eight scored proficient or higher in 2014-15.

WAYNE, N.J. – The majority of students in Wayne’s elementary and middle school grades who took the PARCC exams in 2014 and 2015 are proficient or above, according to the state’s results released this week. However, hundreds of high school students did not take the exam or put forth a “minimal effort,” officials said.
PARCC, the nationwide exam testing students in grades three through 11 in English or Language Arts and Math, is broken down into five proficiency levels, with scores ranging from 650 to 850.
In English, the five levels are broken down as follows:
- Level 1, Not Yet Meeting Expectations: 650 -700
- Level 2, Partially Meeting Expectations: 700 – 725
- Level 3, Approaching Expectations: 725 – 750
- Level 4, Meeting Expectations: 750 – 803
- Level 5, Exceeding Expectations: 803 – 850
Patch took the New Jersey Department of Education’s data for English test scores and broke it down by district. The following includes Wayne’s test takers’ results in grades three through eight.
Superintendent Mark Toback said the district had ”some excellent results” with the elementary school and high school tests with students outperforming the state average “by a large margin.”
However, 500 Wayne Valley and Wayne Hills high school students either did not take the test or put forth a “minimal effort,” when taking it, Toback said.
“As a result, our high school results and our summary results for the school district are not where they should be,” Toback said.
Below is each grade’s total number of students, number of those who did not take the test, valid test scores recorded, district-wide average, and percentage of students who scored in each of the five proficiency levels.
