Passaic Grandma Accused Of Stabbing 5-Year-Old Granddaughter

PATERSON, NJ — A Passaic County woman is facing multiple charges after prosecutors said she stabbed her 5-year-old granddaughter multiple times.

Aurora Villacorta, 51, of Paterson, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful possession of a weapon, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said.

According to prosecutors, police were called to an area near Carroll Street and Godwin Avenue in Paterson shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a call about a stabbing. When officers arrived, they found the girl suffering from multiple stab wounds.

According to prosecutors, an investigation led police to arrest Villacorta in connection to the stabbing.

If convicted on all charges, Villacorta could be sentenced to more than 30 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Villacorta was scheduled to appear in court Thursday, prosecutors said.
