Preakness Healthcare Center Coronavirus Update
Updated coronavirus totals were provided, as well as new information on the nursing home's testing procedures.
WAYNE, NJ — Preakness Healthcare Center provided an update of the nursing home's coronavirus totals on Monday, May 18.
Since March 25, 105 residents have tested positive for COVID-19, including 11 who have since tested negative twice.
The nursing home reports 21 resident deaths from the coronavirus, and one death that is presumed to be related to the virus, but the person was never tested. Ten residents are currently hospitalized, according to the update, but 218 have tested negative.

In addition to resident totals, the nursing home reports 85 staff members have tested positive for the coronavirus, while 289 have tested negative. Of those who have tested positive 47 have since returned to work.

The nursing home also reported they received clarification from the New Jersey Department of Health regarding Executive Directive 20-013, which mandates staff and residents not tested as of May 1 be tested by May 26.

According to the clarification, staff and residents who have tested positive are not required to be retested, per the directive, but Preakness announced it will continue to retest residents "to determine when the transmission-based precautions may be discontinued" and when residents can move from cohort units.
Testing of staff and residents will occur weekly until further notice, according to the release.
