WAYNE, NJ — New Jersey's Primary Election Day is weeks away. Although Wayne doesn't have any municipal elections this year, voters in the township will have the opportunity to impact different races.

A crowded Republican primary for New Jersey's 11th Congressional District will garner much of the local attention in the June 7 elections. Five candidates hope to represent the GOP in efforts to unseat Rep. Mikie Sherrill, a Democrat who first won the House seat in 2018.

The Republican candidates are Tayfun Selen, Paul DeGroot, Ruth McAndrew, Alexander R. Halter and Toby Anderson. Sherrill doesn't have a primary challenger.

Because of redistricting, some of Wayne will vote in the primaries for the 9th Congressional District. But both candidates are running uncontested in their respective parties. Barring surprises, that will set up a General Election between Rep. Bill Pascrell — a Democrat — and Republican challenger Billy Prempeh.

Passaic County's primaries for Board of County Commissioners and sheriff are uncontested.
