A&P's Classic Fruitcake Brand Is For Sale

A&P used to sell Jane Parker brand name fruitcakes, pies, and other sweets.

A once-famous holiday fruitcake is being sold as part of the A&P bankruptcy liquidation.

The Jane Parker brand name was once used on breads, pies, and rolls, and a once-famous holiday fruitcake sold in A&P stores throughout North Jersey and can still be found on Amazon.com, but it is listed there as unavailable.

The brand dates back to the 1930s. The ring- or loaf-shaped fruitcakes contain nuts, orange peel, and maraschino cherries. A&P sold the cakes until the 1960s, but brought them back and sold them online beginning in 2009, NorthJersey.com reported.

Hilco Streambank, the intellectual property division of the liquidation firm Hilco Global, is marketing the name and website JaneParker.com as part of the liquidation sale. The Jane Parker brand brought in $265,000 in revenue in the 2014 fiscal year, the Hilco listing states.

The division is still trying to sell off trademarks, websites, and customer data of The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company. The company's headquarters had been in Montvale before it declared bankruptcy last year and sold off or closed its nearly 300 A&P, Waldbaum's, and Food Basics stores, including several in Bergen and Passaic counties.
