The Reiki Healing Center of New Jersey Opens in Wayne
Offers Reiki, a Japanese method for healing and wellness, yoga and meditation
The Reiki Healing Center of New Jersey (RHCNJ), located at 573 Valley Road, Suite 7B in Wayne is pleased to announce that it is now open and ready to serve the local community. Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) is a method of energy healing from Japan used to promote deep relaxation, manage stress, create internal balance and a sense of well-being. There are many kinds of Reiki available today throughout the United States and The Reiki Healing Center of New Jersey is one of only two Centers in the State to offer Jikiden Reiki classes and sessions. Jikiden Reiki is the original Japanese Reiki with its roots going back almost to the discovery of Reiki itself. Jikiden means “directly passed down.”
Sema Tihan, The Reiki Healing Center of New Jersey’s founder and Wayne resident for thirteen years, is excited to open her new location in her hometown. “When I first started my practice in 2008, I was seeing clients out of my home. Then I moved to a professional studio in Wayne, then Fairfield and now I’m back to where I started it all. I’ve come full circle and I am grateful to be able to provide a healing space for children and adults in my community,” Tihan said.
Tihan attended NJIT and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, but has always been interested in holistic and complementary healing methods. For over twenty years she has been studying, practicing and experiencing different healing modalities like yoga, meditation, energy medicine and nutrition therapy; but it wasn’t until she discovered Reiki, that she found her true calling and passion. The simplicity and ease of practice, its ability to be used in almost any case of physical, mental or emotional imbalance and Reiki’s profound healing effects, led Tihan to become a Reiki Master Teacher through the Western lineage schools in 2004.
In 2012, she had the opportunity to study with Frank Arjava Petter. Petter holds the esteemed position of Vice President of the Jikiden Institute in Kyoto, Japan and has written over a dozen books on the subject. After three years of study with Petter in the Jikiden Reiki tradition, Tihan is now a certified assistant teacher and practitioner of the Jikiden Reiki Institute. There are currently only thirteen teachers and close to twenty certified assistant teachers in the U.S. “I am honored to have been taught by Arjava sensei and am excited to be able to offer this modality in its original beauty and simplicity to my clients and students,” said Tihan.
Clients come to Tihan with various ailments from emotional issues of anxiety and depression to physical issues ranging from headaches to cancer. “A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through you,” Tihan said. Reiki treats the whole person, body, mind and spirit, because they are all one, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation, pain relief and feelings of peace, security and well-being. Reiki is gentle, safe and has no known contraindications. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery, as exemplified by many major hospitals offering it through their integrative medicine departments. For the individual, “The only way to know Reiki is to experience it,” Tihan said.
In addition to private Reiki treatments, the RHCNJ offers Reiki ‘shares’ (gatherings of Reiki practitioners to practice Reiki as a group), Jikiden Reiki classes, therapeutic yoga classes, meditation instruction for children and adults, crystals and essential oil therapy as well as spiritual healing coaching. The Center also hosts various holistic health events and programs throughout the year.
