Republicans Keep State Seats In NJ-40: Unofficial Election Results

Voters re-elected Senator Kristin Corrado and Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips in this North Jersey district.

NORTH JERSEY — Republicans maintained their seats in the New Jersey Legislature for the 40th District, unofficial election results show. Senator Kristin Corrado won re-election by about 15 percentage points, while Assemblyman Christopher DePhillips kept his seat and voters chose Al Barlas to replace the retiring Kevin Rooney, per the latest vote tallies.

The 40th district includes parts of Bergen County (Franklin Lakes, Ridgewood and Wyckoff), Essex County (Caldwell, Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell, Verona and West Caldwell), and Passaic County (Hawthorne, Little Falls, Totowa, Wayne and Woodland Park). Voters in all of New Jersey's legislative districts went to the polls Tuesday night to decide on who will represent them in the statehouse.

The Democratic Party put forward Hawthorne school board member Jennifer Ehrentraut for the Senate seat, and then small business owner Jennifer Marrinan of Wyckoff, and Woodland Park Schools director of special education Giovanna Irizarry as Assembly candidates.

Member of the State Senate, 40th district

  • Kristin M. Corrado (R-incumbent): 28,042 votes (57.6 percent)
  • Jennifer Ehrentraut (D): 20,659 votes (42.4 percent)

Member of the State Assembly, 40th district (vote for two)

  • Christopher P. DePhillips (R-incumbent): 27,325 votes (28.6 percent)
  • Al Barlas (R): 26,429 votes (27.7 percent)
  • Jennifer Marrinan (D): 21,024 votes (22 percent)
  • Giovanna Irizarry (D): 20,785 (21.8 percent)

Results are not official until certified by the county clerk.
