Resident Airlifted To Hospital After Passaic Co. House Fire

Firefighters rescued a person trapped inside a burning home on Wednesday afternoon.

HAWTHORNE, NJ — Firefighters rescued a person trapped inside a burning home in Hawthorne on Wednesday afternoon, and the person had to be flown to a local burn center for their injuries.

Hawthorne fire officials said the two-alarm blaze happened on Sunrise Drive on Wednesday afternoon. Hawthorne police and fire departments arrived around 1:43 p.m. and learned there was someone trapped in the home.

More fire companies arrived as crews rescued the trapped person, according to Hawthorne FD. Emergency crews called for a medical helicopter to transport the patient, who was not identified, to the hospital.

"While all Borough crews were working to locate and extinguish the fire, crews from mutual aid departments handled setting up a landing zone at the High School football field," said fire officials.

Crews had the fire extinguished within 45 minutes, and remained on scene to monitor "hot spots" until 6 p.m., the fire department added.
