Riverside Park to be Renamed in Honor of Everett Faber
Faber, a former Wayne police officer, served on the Planning Board and Board of Education. He died in 2009.
Riverside Park will be the renamed the Everett J. Faber Memorial Park. The announcement was made at the Aug. 17 council meeting.
Officials explained the park’s renaming is in honor of Faber’s service to the community as a police officer and member of the Board of Education and Planning Board. Faber died in 2009.
George Tahan Jr. spearheaded the effort to rename the park in Faber’s honor. He said that he wanted to help keep Faber’s memory alive.

“He was a personal friend for 50 years and he was one of the finest human beings I knew,” said George Tahan Jr.
Faber was a police officer for 25 years, from 1961 to 1986. He was also a volunteer firefighter and coached at the Police Athletic League.

“I remember the first time I met him, he was a police officer and he gave a lecture on bike safety,” said Mayor Christopher Vergano. Vergano said naming the park in his honor would be a “fitting memorial.”
Councilman Joseph Scuralli agreed.
“We appreciate the work he was able to do and he certainly was a great contributor to the town,” Scuralli said.
The Farmingdale Road park contains a swing set, slide and basketball court. A ceremony will take place at the park in late September or early October.
