Roads, Rivers Flood After Heavy Rain Moves Through Wayne
Nearly 3 inches of rain hit the Wayne area, and there's still a chance of showers Friday night and Saturday.
WAYNE, NJ — Local roads and rivers remained flooded Friday morning after a heavy rainstorm hit Wayne. The area received nearly 3 inches of precipitation, and more showers could come Friday night and Saturday, according to forecasters.
Wayne Township issued three traffic advisories for flooding closures at about 8 a.m. Friday:
- Fayette Avenue
- Dey Road, going into the Wayne Department of Public Works complex
- Meadow Road from Edgemont Crescent to Kurland Street
The Fayette Avenue and Dey Road closures remain in place as of 10 a.m. Friday, according to Wayne's traffic-advisory map.

Minor flooding of the Pompton River in Pompton Plains continued as of Friday morning. A flood warning for Passaic County rivers remains in place until 11 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Drivers shouldn't try to drive around barricades or through flooded areas, the National Weather Service said. The agency urged caution when walking near riverbanks.

The Wayne area's rainfall totaled 2.61 to 2.74 inches, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. And more rain could come.
Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for Wayne as of 10 a.m. Friday:
- Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. West wind around 10 mph.
- Friday night: Scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
- Saturday: Scattered showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 57. South wind 5 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
- Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.
- Sunday: Isolated showers after 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 53. West wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
- Sunday night: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 36.
